Methyl eugenol
Methyl eugenol (4-allyl-1, 2-dimethoxybenzene-carboxylate) is a chemical compound that naturally found in > 200 plants and abundantly found in various essential oils, including basil and certain varieties of clove oil. It acts as a powerful attractant or pheromone for certain species of fruit flies. Lab synthesized methyl eugenol is widely used for its multiple applications. It is known for its sweet, fruity aroma. It is potent attractant of fruit flies and also is used in the food and fragrance industries.
In agriculture, traps containing methyl eugenol are commonly used in agriculture to monitor and control the fruit fly population in orchards and other fruit crops.
Cuelure
Cue-lure acts as an attractant of melon flies. It does not occur naturally. But it rapidly hydrolyzed to form 4-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanone i.e., rheosimin, or raspberry ketone (RK), which is a natural plant constituent. Cue-lure is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a raspberry-like odor. Raspberry Ketone was originally isolated from an orchid, superbum Rchb. F, and is found in raspberries and in the juice of cranberries. Apparently, the name C-L is derived from the scientific name of the target species, the melon fly, Bacterocera cucurbitae (Coquillett). It is used to control the infestation caused by melon fly, Bactrocera cucurbit in all cucurbitae family crops.
